Protect the Right to Repair

Without the REPAIR act

Automakers can BLOCK access to readily available repair data in your vehicle

For the automotive industry, we believe people should have the ability to maintain and fix their vehicles at the repair facility, both independent and dealer, of their choice (including their driveway), rather than having to rely solely on the manufacturer or authorized repair shops to do so.

What is the REPAIR Act?

The REPAIR Act would require automakers to allow vehicle owners and independent repair shops access to the same vehicle-generated repair and maintenance data, repair tools, and software as their dealer network.

What data is blocked?

Critical repair and maintenance data required to get vehicles safely back on the roads are currently being restricted.

95% of new vehicles sold globally will have wirelessly-transmitted connectivity by 2030. Currently data is sent only to the vehicle manufacturer, who controls who has access and at what cost.

On average, drivers spend 36% more on repair costs at the dealership than they would at an independent service shop.

77% of vehicles are over seven years old. Without right to repair, drivers will be forced to dealerships where costs are higher, taking an estimated $100 billion from drivers’ pockets.
